Making a difference

"This wonderful home is all we hoped it would be and is a benchmark for others caring for profoundly disabled young people. We have been particularly impressed with the emphasis on the care of each resident as an individual, with the programme of activities and therapies both on-site and externally, with the high standards of care and training and quite simply with the love and security in which staff 'cocoon' all the residents - a true home in every sense of the word."

January 2012

Progress has been impressive and you can see our distinctive roof-line taking shape. Needless to say we're all very excited!

New home construction underway!

On Monday 26th September 2011 we started on site after the contract was awarded to B&K Building Services on the 12/09/2011. The planned completion date is set for 24th August 2012.

The Future

With profoundly disabled children now living longer there is a severe lack of long term and respite care nationally. We have a large waiting list of desperate parents who are worried about how their child will be provided for in the future when they are too old or infirm to manage on their own at home. We have frequent enquiries and the Trustees feel that they should respond to the need for more places.

As a result the charity is now embarking on the building of a second home. A piece of land, about 2 acres in size, has been purchased on the outskirts of Hereford near Hampton Bishop and full planning permission has been obtained. As you will see from the images on this page the new home is going to be of an exceptional and innovative design and will provide similar services to those that are already offered at our first Martha Trust House in Hereford.

It has been designed to have minimal environmental impact, using all the most modern energy saving systems; and has focused on the needs of our disabled wheelchair users, incorporating all the necessary specialised fittings such as baths, hoists and beds. The new home will also have its own modern laundry and specially designed kitchen, with a new therapy centre providing the residents with all the essential facilities they need on site, including a hydrotherapy pool.

Fully landscaped gardens will again surround the Home with raised beds and special areas for sensory stimulation, where residents and their families and carers will be able to sit and relax and enjoy their new surroundings.

Please help us to make our new home become a much needed reality.
