Reports to: Manager/Nurse in Charge

Main purpose of the role: To be part of a team providing individual care to each resident.

Key Tasks

Under supervision and within the limits of personal experience and knowledge to play a vital role in creating a happy and caring environment. To be involved in a wide range of general caring duties making sure that privacy, dignity and individuality is maintained at all times. To adopt a totally flexible approach and attitude to the challenges in all aspects of the post. To uphold a positive image and reputation of Martha Trust at all times. All employees are bound by the Terms and Conditions of Martha Trust which are detailed in the policy files.

Main Responsibilities

  • To assist residents with washing, oral hygiene, dressing, undressing, toileting, grooming and all aspects of personal care to a high standard.

  • To ensure that residents are dressed appropriately at all times and care for residents personal belongings.

  • To assist residents who have limited mobility or physical disabilities making the best use of aids and equipment provided.

  • To assist in the control of incontinence, providing comfort and dignity.

  • To care for residents who are unwell including the application of minor dressings and basic bed care.

  • To undertake clinical procedures following training and assessment of competency.

  • To clean, make and change beds and keep bedrooms tidy.

  • To feed residents ensuring the correct posture is maintained and that the food is suitable for the individual.

  • To undertake various duties as instructed by the Nurse in Charge including, disposal of clinical waste, removal of dirty laundry, cleaning the staff room and tidying the linen room.

  • To assist in giving mental and physical stimulation to residents by talking to them and helping them to take part in activities.

  • To respond to call bells, answer the door and the telephone.

  • To make visitors welcome offering refreshments and assistance as required.

  • To attend hand over at the start of a shift and to listen to, read and write reports accurately.

  • To take part in internal and external reviews for residents

  • To complete a four week induction training

  • To attend staff meetings and training sessions.

  • To report the need for repairs to the Nurse in Charge

  • To report any accidents or incidents to the person in charge immediately.

  • To wear the uniform provided ensuring that nails are kept short and no jewellery, apart from a wedding ring, is worn.

  • To understand that the Nurse in Charge is responsible for the shift and to obey all reasonable requests.

  • Carry out any other reasonable duty as requested by the Manager.

The post holder will be required to comply with regulations relating to Health and Safety at Work and the Data Protection Act. The post holder will be required to comply with all policies and procedures issued by and on behalf of Martha Trust Hereford Limited.
