Responsible to: Nurse in Charge of the shift

Main Purpose of role: To provide domestic and laundry support

Key Tasks

Ensure the home is kept clean and tidy at all times. To undertake all laundry as required.

Main responsibilities


  • Clean all the bedrooms on a daily basis.

  • Wash all hand basins.

  • Empty waste bins.

  • Dust surfaces.

  • Vacuum floors.

  • Clean windows.

  • Refill anti-bacterial soap dispensers and paper towel as required.

Bathrooms, toilets and sluice

  • Clean all toilets throughout the home on a daily basis.

  • Clean all baths.

  • Mop all floors.

  • Mop sluice room floor.

  • Wipe and disinfect all surfaces.

  • Clean mirrors.

  • Refill anti-bacterial soap dispensers, paper towel and toilet roll holders as required.


  • Complete all the laundry for the home on a daily basis.

  • Use the correct procedure for washing clothing which may have been soiled with bodily fluids or where there is a risk of infection.

  • Use the correct machines for washing certain items as directed.

  • Put clean laundry away.

  • Keep the linen cupboard tidy.

Therapy centre

The therapy area includes – physiotherapy, soft play, therapy kitchen, aromatherapy, sensory rooms, music room and pool changing areas.

  • Vacuum all floors and dust surfaces within the therapy centre.

  • Clean the therapy kitchen including mopping the floor.

  • Mop all floors within the pool changing area and wipe all surfaces. General areas • Vacuum, dust/polish the nurse station, dining room and lounge.

  • Damp dust all skirtings, ledges and tops of doors.

  • Mop the conservatory, dining and staff room floors.

  • Empty all bins and take rubbish to the waste disposal area.
