Night/Bank Nurse


Reports to: Home Manager

Scope of the post: The post holder will be in charge of a shift and will be expected to supervise and instruct staff to ensure the safe and efficient running of the home.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver and direct team to care for residents according to the care plan, documenting and liaising with the Primary Nurse regarding any concerns or changes

  • Monitor and assess the residents wellbeing, reporting and acting on any concerns appropriately

  • Facilitate any transfer of a resident to hospital when necessary, ensuring all paperwork and information is available and manager on call and family are informed

  • Make sure all night tasks are undertaken in a timely, efficient and thorough way

  • Maintain the security of the building and safety of the residents at all times

  • Manage the smooth running of the shift, managing your own time and that of others effectively through delegation

  • Manage the quality of care delivered on the shift through careful monitoring, training and supervision and own professional standards

  • Undertake the weekly medication count, identifying reasons for any discrepancies where able and reporting these promptly to the Deputy (Clinical Lead) or Manager in their absence

  • Liaise with parents, carers and relevant professionals as required

  • Induct new staff to night duties and participate in their supervision and in monitoring their performance and appraisal

  • Assist in developing and maintaining good working relationships within the home, promoting collaborative working partnerships and effective communication between all members of the multi-disciplinary team.

  • Manage and report any accident or incident, completing all appropriate paperwork, undertaking investigation where appropriate and reviewing and monitoring any consequent risk and outcome

  • Appropriately manage initial response to any complaints or concern brought to attention during the shift within the complaints policy, reporting to the Deputy/Home Manager or other senior manager in a timely way.

  • Undertake risk assessment within sphere of work and environment, addressing hazards in the working area and reporting findings to the Home Manager or their Deputy

  • Be alert to issues of Safeguarding referring any concerns to the home manager or safeguarding team.

  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities as required in discussion with the Management.

  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
